Abstract

This article focuses on the concept of ikhlas according to Imam al-Ghazali and its relevance in analyzing the phenomenon of social charity documentation in the digital era. The concept of ikhlas emphasizes purifying intentions so that all deeds are performed solely for Allah, free from worldly motivations such as recognition or praise. In the context of the digital era, practices like documenting social charity through photos, videos, and live streaming often raise questions about the authenticity of intentions, potentially leading to riya’ (showing off). This research uses a qualitative approach with literature review methods, linking al-Ghazali’s thoughts in Ihya Ulumuddin with contemporary challenges in social charity practices. Viewed from al-Ghazali’s perspective, ikhlas provides a spiritual framework for evaluating the motivations behind social charity, ensuring that actions remain focused on gaining Allah's pleasure. This study also emphasizes the importance of spiritual education and self-reflection in maintaining sincerity while utilizing digital technology, thus offering practical guidance for preserving the spiritual essence of charity in a highly publicized digital world.
