Abstract
This article examines Imam Al-Zamakhshari’s interpretation of Surah Al-A‘raf verse 143 in Tafsir Al-Kashshaf, focusing on the influence of Mu‘tazilite theology on his understanding of the concept of ru’yatullah (the vision of God). Using a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical method, this study analyzes Al-Zamakhshari’s exegetical reasoning alongside theological and classical tafsir literature. The findings reveal that Al-Zamakhshari firmly denies the possibility of seeing God, either in this world or the hereafter, based on the Mu‘tazilite principles of divine transcendence (tanzih) and rational argumentation. His rejection is supported by linguistic analysis, rhetorical strategies, and strong criticism of Ahl al-Sunnah, who uphold the belief in ru’yatullah under the doctrine of bilā kaifa. However, the study also highlights the presence of significant ideological bias in his tafsir, as reflected in his exclusive theological stance and dismissive tone toward opposing views. This article argues for a more critical reading of ideologically charged exegesis and advocates for a moderate, inclusive, and pluralistic approach in Qur’anic interpretation within the Islamic tradition
