Using a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical method, this study analyzes Al-Zamakhshari’s exegetical reasoning alongside theological and classical tafsir literature. The findings reveal that Al-Zamakhshari firmly denies the possibility of seeing God, either in this world or the hereafter, based on the Mu‘tazilite principles of divine transcendence (tanzih) and rational argumentation. His rejection is supported by linguistic analysis, rhetorical strategies, and strong criticism of Ahl al-Sunnah, who uphold the belief in ru’yatullah under the doctrine of bilā kaifa. However, the study also highlights the presence of significant ideological bias in his tafsir, as reflected in his exclusive theological stance and dismissive tone toward opposing views. This article argues for a more critical reading of ideologically charged exegesis and advocates for a moderate, inclusive, and pluralistic approach in Qur’anic interpretation within the Islamic tradition
Jumiatul Farida, Rahmad Hidayat, Najib Irsyadi Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.badrussholeh.ac.id/index.php/samawat/article/view/446 Sun, 28 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Epistemology of Transdisciplinary Qur’anic Exegesis: Integrating Islamic Philosophy and Contemporary Hermeneutics in Understanding the Qur’an https://ejournal.badrussholeh.ac.id/index.php/samawat/article/view/494
This research aims to formulate a model of transdisciplinary Qur’anic exegesis epistemology that integrates the principles of classical Islamic philosophy with contemporary hermeneutics approaches in understanding the Qur’an. For centuries, exegetical studies have tended to be divided between the traditional textual style and the rational-contextual modern approach. This study seeks to bridge this dichotomy by conceptually examining the contributions of Muslim philosophers such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Mulla Sadra within the epistemological framework of knowledge, and connecting them with the philosophical hermeneutics theories of Hans-Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur. Through a qualitative-analytical approach to primary and secondary literature, this research finds that the transdisciplinary exegesis epistemology emphasizes the importance of dialogue among the text, reason, and the reader's socio-cultural context. The results indicate that the integration of Islamic philosophy and modern hermeneutics can broaden the horizon of exegetical understanding from mere textual interpretation towards a dynamic signification that aligns with the development of science and contemporary human realities. Thus, this model potentially serves as a new paradigm in Qur’anic exegesis studies that is more reflective, rational, and humanistic.
Syaifudin, Alfet Muhammad Copyright (c) 2026 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.badrussholeh.ac.id/index.php/samawat/article/view/494 Sun, 28 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Epistemologi Tafsir Nuzuli dan Relevansinya terhadap Metodologi Istinbāṭ Hukum Islam Kontemporer https://ejournal.badrussholeh.ac.id/index.php/samawat/article/view/585
The development of contemporary society has given rise to various legal issues that demand a renewal of the methodology of istinbāṭ (derivation) of Islamic law, so that it becomes more responsive to social change without losing its normative foundation. On the other hand, Tafsīr Nuzūlī—an exegetical approach that emphasizes the chronology of revelation and the historical context of the Qur'anic verses—has thus far been studied primarily as a method of Qur'anic interpretation, while its contribution to the development of Islamic legal methodology remains relatively underexplored. This research aims to analyze the epistemological construction of Tafsīr Nuzūlī and to examine its relevance to contemporary Islamic legal istinbāṭ methodology. This study is library-based research (library research) employing approaches from Qur'anic exegesis (tafsīr), Islamic legal theory (Uṣūl al-Fiqh), history, and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah (objectives of Islamic law). Data were analyzed using content analysis and conceptual analysis methods. The findings indicate that the epistemology of Tafsīr Nuzūlī is built upon an integrative dialectic among the Qur'anic text, the historical context of revelation, reason, and social reality. This epistemological framework is relevant to the development of contemporary Islamic legal istinbāṭ, as it is capable of uncovering legal rationality, identifying Maqāṣid Al-Sharī‘ah, and encouraging the formulation of law that is more contextual and adaptive to societal dynamics. This research offers a maqāṣidī-nuzūlī istinbāṭ model as an integrative approach in the development of contemporary Islamic law.
Slamet Arofik, Eko Andy Saputro Copyright (c) 2025 IAI Badrus Sholeh Kediri http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.badrussholeh.ac.id/index.php/samawat/article/view/585 Sun, 28 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700
